Hello everyone! It’s February, the coldest month of the year in Shizuoka. But even though it’s chilly outside, there are so many warm and exciting events happening this month! At INCL Eikaiwa, we love using seasonal topics to make learning English more natural and fun.

皆さん、こんにちは！2月になりましたね。静岡でも一年で一番寒い時期ですが、外の寒さに負けないくらい、今月はワクワクする行事がたくさんあります！インクル英会話では、季節のトピックを取り入れて、自然に楽しく英語を学べるレッスンを大切にしています。

1. Setsubun: Chasing Away the Winter Blues (節分：冬の憂鬱を追い払おう)

On February 3rd, we celebrate Setsubun. In English, we call this the "Bean-Throwing Festival." We throw beans to drive away "oni" (demons) and welcome good luck for the spring.

2月3日は節分ですね。英語では "Bean-Throwing Festival" と呼ばれます。鬼を追い出し、春の福を呼び込むために豆をまきます。

Useful English Phrase:

• "Out with the demons! In with good luck!" （鬼は外！福は内！）

2. Valentine’s Day: More Than Just Chocolate (バレンタイン：チョコだけじゃない！)

In Japan, Valentine’s Day is famous for giving chocolate. But in many English-speaking countries, it’s a day to give cards, flowers, or small gifts to anyone you appreciate—friends, family, and teachers!

日本のバレンタインはチョコを贈るのが定番ですが、多くの英語圏では、友人や家族、先生など、感謝している人へカードやお花、小さなギフトを贈る日なんです。

Useful English Phrases:

• "Happy Valentine's Day!"
• "I’m so glad we are friends."（友達でいてくれて嬉しいよ）
• "Thank you for everything."（いつもありがとう）

3. Why February is Great for Starting English (2月に英語を始めるのがおすすめな理由)

Spring is just around the corner! Many students in Hamamatsu and Iwata start preparing for the new school year in April. By starting in February, you can get a "head start" and build confidence before the busy spring season begins.
